Sexually Transmitted Diseases Real-Time PCR Detection Kit is designed for the specific identification and differentiation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae (causative agent for Gonorrhea), Chlamydia trachomatis (causative agent for Chlamydia), Mycoplasma genitalium (causative agent for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease), Trichomonas vaginalis (causative agent for Trichomoniasis), Ureaplasma urealyticum (causative agent for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease), Ureaplasma parvum and/or Mycoplasma hominis (associated with Infertility and Pelvic Inflammatory Disease)

Analysis is done on samples taken from urogenital, endocervical and urine, from patients with signs and symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This test is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of STDs in combination with clinical and epidemiological risk factors.

DNA is extracted from clinical specimens, multiplied using Real-Time amplification, and detected using fluorescent reporter dye probes specific for:

  • Trichomonas vaginalis (Causative organism for vaginal/urethral infection)
  • Mycoplasma hominis (Causative organism for genital inflammation in women)
  • Mycoplasma genitalium (Causative organism for genital inflammation in men)
  • Ureaplasma spp. (Causes inflammation)
  • Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Causative organism for Gonorrhea)
  • Chlamydia trachomatis (Causative organism for Chlamydia)

The STD screen service requires a self-collected urine sample, unless you require the collection of urogenital specimens, rectal or endocervical samples, in which case sample collection is provided by appointment only in one of our partnering clinics.
