Additional tests & services:

  • Inflammatory test includes the testing of:
    • Calprotectin – a substance that your body releases when there is inflammation in your intestine. It is a protein biomarker and high levels are associated with active inflammatory conditions.
    • Gut acidity – acidity can be tested in order to diagnose a medical condition. The pH of human faeces is variable but normally is alkaline.
  • Inflammation Marker Package: Fecal Zonulin & Secretory IgA provides a comprehensive assessment of gut permeability and immune function by measuring fecal Zonulin and Secretory IgA. This package is designed to support the evaluation of gastrointestinal health, immune response, and barrier integrity.
Our Inflammation Marker Package includes the testing of:

    • Zonulin Intestinal Permeability Marker – Zonulin is a protein involved in the regulation of intestinal tight junctions. High levels of Zonulin are associated with increased intestinal permeability (“Leaky Gut Syndrome”), which can lead to gastrointestinal disturbances and systemic inflammation.
    • Secretory IgA (sIgA) Gut Immunity & Barrier Function – Immunoglobulin A (IgA) is a crucial antibody involved in the body’s immune defense. In its secretory form, it is present in mucus and bodily secretions, including stool, and is the primary immunoglobulin in mucosal immunity. Secretory IgA serves as a biomarker for assessing gut immunity and intestinal barrier function. This test is valuable for:
Evaluating immunological activity in the gastrointestinal tract
Monitoring intestinal infections and gut inflammation
Tracking treatment progress in inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g., Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis)

      • Elevated sIgA levels suggest an active immune response to an antigen or pathogen.
      • Decreased sIgA levels may indicate reduced mucosal immunity, a response to treatment, or a worsening condition.
  • Metagenomic Shotgun Screening by The BioArte: The BioArte’s metagenomic shotgun screening is the most advanced, untargeted tool for comprehensive analysis of the human microbiome and beyond. This technology allows full sequencing of all DNA extracted from biological samples, providing a complete genetic picture of all microorganisms present — without being limited to specific marker genes.
    • What it detects:
      • Bacteria: identified down to species and, in many cases, strain level.
      • Fungi: direct detection of fungal species without the need for culture.
      • Parasites: identification of intestinal parasites and protozoa.
      • Viruses: metagenomic detection of DNA viruses, including latent or low-abundance viral infections.
      • Antibiotic resistance genes: comprehensive mapping of key antibiotic resistance genes present in the sample’s microbial community.
    • Key advantages:
      • Unbiased approach: the method detects any organism present, including rare, unexpected, or emerging pathogens.
      • High resolution: allows for precise taxonomic classification and detection of genetic variants.
      • Identification of co-infections: the system detects mixed infections (bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic) and determines the dominant pathogen.
      • Detection of emerging or unknown pathogens: ideal for research, precision medicine, and complex clinical cases.
    • Applications:
      1. Advanced diagnostics for immunocompromised patients.
      2. Monitoring hospital-acquired infections and multidrug-resistant organisms.
      3. Investigating intestinal dysbiosis.
      4. Environmental and food safety testing for microbial contamination.

The BioArte’s standard of quality: All processes are carried out in The BioArte’s certified laboratory using state-of-the-art next-generation sequencing technologies (Oxford Nanopore), combined with proprietary bioinformatics pipelines designed to deliver the highest accuracy in taxonomic identification and antimicrobial resistance gene profiling. Each test is delivered with a detailed scientific report and the possibility of personalized scientific consultation.

  • Parasite test – This In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) test is used as an aid in the diagnosis of Cryptosporidium, Giardia lamblia and/or Entamoeba histolytica in stool samples. DNA is extracted from stool specimens and analysed in our laboratory using Real Time PCR. These protozoan parasites are some of the most common intestinal parasites to cause gastrointestinal infections and are known as cryptosporidiosis, giardiasis and amoebiasis, respectively. Symptoms of the diseases include diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, bloating and weight loss.

About this test:

With the revolutionary Gut test kit from The BioArte, discover the mysteries of your gut flora like never before. Our state-of-the-art technology surpasses the competition by providing you with a thorough analysis that reaches the species level, which is based on our proprietary full-length 16s approach.

What distinguishes us is this:

Precision at the Species Level: The BioArte Gut test kit is intended to give you comprehensive information at the species level, in contrast to other gut microbiota examinations. To guarantee unmatched precision and specificity in identifying the microorganisms present in your gut, we sequence all nine variable regions (V1-V9), in contrast to others in the market who only sequence a limited percentage (mostly V3-V4).

Taxonomic Depth: We can explore the taxonomy of your gut microbiota in great detail thanks to our cutting-edge sequencing technology. You’ll be equipped with exact knowledge when you get a complete analysis of all the species that live in your digestive tract.

Thorough Analysis: The BioArte’s Gut test kit covers a lot of ground. Our comprehensive analysis of your gut microbiota delivers a holistic understanding of the microbial ecosystem within you.

Scientific Precision: We maintain the highest levels of scientific rigour at The BioArte. Our unique 16s method is supported by thorough research, guaranteeing the accuracy and dependability of our findings. To minimise variability, our gut kit asks for the collection of two samples as opposed to one.

Personalised Insights: Your general health and wellbeing are greatly influenced by the composition of your gut bacteria. You will obtain insights into your body’s immunity, digestion and other aspects of your health.

Simple to use Kit: Gathering a sample for examination is the easiest part of the process. Our easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions make the process quick and easy. Two samples must be collected in order to allow for a comparison of the outcomes. We may perform insightful comparisons between these two samples by examining them to find trends and variances in the data. This comparison is essential for identifying any differences or patterns that could offer insightful information about the person’s gut health or other variables under evaluation, facilitating a thorough examination of the person’s health or condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a gut microbiome test and a faecal test?

The gut microbiome test analysis the state of the gut microbial community by looking at what families are present and to what percentage within the given population. A faecal test, of which there are two; the faecal immunochemical test (FIT) and the immunochemical faecal occult blood test (iFOBT), both aim to test blood in stool in order to detect signs of precancerous polyps or colorectal cancer.

I feel healthy, should I try the gut microbiome test?

Unlike conventional medicine where you go to see a doctor when something is already wrong, tests like the microbiome test can provide you with inner knowledge of the state of your gut. This in return will help you understand your body better and give you tools in advance to help you continue maintaining your balanced state or even highlight certain elements that may become of concern if not taken care of. It is recommended to have the first test once you feel to be in your best condition in order to have a reference point in case you may develop some alteration of this status in the future so we can immediately check what has changed with respect to your healthy reference point.

Do I need to stop my daily medication and fast prior to taking my sample and sending it?

No. You will be given a form to fill out where you can include the exact medication you are currently taking. This will help our Microbiota Expert to evaluate your results whilst taking into consideration the information you have given us.

How long will it take to process my sample and get the results?

3-5 Weeks once the samples have been delivered to our diagnostic lab.

Once I receive my results, how will I understand the analysis?

Once The BioArte diagnostic microbial lab has processed your sample, the analysis will be sent to a medical doctor / microbial expert who will be able to evaluate the results together with your answers in the questionnaire. If you have been referred to us by your medical doctor or a licenced practitioner, we can ensure to send the results to the referral person who will discuss the findings with you.
